Who holds each view

Messiah 2030

Torah-observant futurist. The feasts and a 7,000-year week set the timing.

Who holds it

The Messiah 2030 Project, a YouTube series (2023 to 2025) with no presenter named. It says it shares 119 Ministries' view of 2030, held since 2014.

In short

Messiah 2030 reads the 7 days of creation as 7,000 years. Messiah died in biblical year 4000 (30 CE) and returns in year 6000 (2030 CE), 2,000 years later. They split Daniel's 70th week: Messiah's ministry was the first 3.5 years (26 to 30 CE). The last 3.5 years run from an abomination in spring 2027 to the Day of Trumpets 2030. They name that day as the return, the first resurrection and the gathering. They say their timeline fails if spring 2027 passes without the abomination, and call it "a call for a watch, not setting a date."

Little horn = Trump

Futurist. It names a living leader as the coming little horn.

Who holds it

Some online prophecy commentators, mainly on YouTube and social media since 2016. No denomination, seminary or creed teaches it.

In short

This reading keeps the futurist order of events and names Donald Trump as the little horn of Daniel 7. It points to the horn's "mouth speaking great things" (Daniel 7:8) and reads the beast's healed head wound (Revelation 13:3) as the July 2024 assassination attempt. Other Christians who admire Trump read him the other way, as a Cyrus-like helper of Israel (Isaiah 45:1). Both camps are small next to the historic schools.

Little horn = papacy

Historicist. Prophecy runs through church history; a day stands for a year.

Who holds it

Historicist Protestants: Luther, Calvin, Knox, Isaac Newton, the Westminster Confession (1646, 25.6), and today Seventh-day Adventists (Uriah Smith, Ellen G. White).

In short

Historicism reads Daniel and Revelation as one unbroken story from the prophet's day to the end. The little horn rises out of the fourth beast, Rome, after the empire splits into ten kingdoms. It reads the papacy as that horn and as the man of sin of 2 Thessalonians 2. Using a day for a year (Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6), it counts the 1,260 days as 1,260 years, often 538 to 1798. Many Catholics and other Christians reject this reading, and it is now mostly held by Adventists and some Reformed and independent Protestants.

Dispensational futurist

Futurist. Israel and the church are kept distinct; most of Revelation is still future.

Who holds it

John Nelson Darby (1800s), the Scofield Reference Bible (1909), Dallas Theological Seminary, Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye and many evangelical churches.

In short

Dispensationalism keeps Israel and the church distinct. It puts a gap between Daniel's 69th and 70th weeks, so the 70th week is a future 7-year tribulation. The church is caught up before it begins. It reads Israel's return in 1948 as a key sign. A personal Antichrist will make a covenant with Israel and then defile a rebuilt temple. Christ then returns to reign 1,000 years from Jerusalem.

Historic premillennial

Futurist. The church goes through the tribulation; Christ returns before the 1,000 years.

Who holds it

Early church fathers such as Justin Martyr and Irenaeus; in modern times George Eldon Ladd, Craig Blomberg, Wayne Grudem and many Baptists.

In short

Historic premillennialism is the oldest recorded form of millennial belief. It expects a future Antichrist and a great tribulation that the church goes through. Christ returns once, after the tribulation, raises the saints, and reigns 1,000 years on earth. It does not split Israel and the church as sharply as dispensationalism, and it often reads the 70th week as fulfilled in Christ, or held loosely.

Preterist

Past. Most of Matthew 24 and Revelation came true by AD 70.

Who holds it

Partial preterists: Luis de Alcázar (1614), R. C. Sproul, Kenneth Gentry, Gary DeMar, Hank Hanegraaff. Full preterists (e.g. Max King) are a minority outside the creeds.

In short

Preterism holds that most of these prophecies came true in the first century. Jesus said "this generation will not pass away" until these things happen (Matthew 24:34). So it reads the tribulation as the Jewish war of AD 66 to 70 and the beast as Nero. Partial preterists, the large majority, still expect Christ's bodily return, the resurrection and the final judgement. Full preterists say all of it, the return included, happened in AD 70, a view the historic creeds reject.

Amillennial / idealist

Spiritual. Revelation pictures the whole church age; Christ reigns now.

Who holds it

Augustine (City of God), most Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran and Reformed teaching; modern writers Anthony Hoekema, William Hendriksen, G. K. Beale, Kim Riddlebarger.

In short

Amillennialism reads the 1,000 years as the present reign of Christ, from his resurrection to his return. Satan is bound now so the gospel can reach the nations. The idealist reading sees Revelation's beasts and plagues as patterns that repeat through history. They lead up to one final Antichrist and one return of Christ. At that return come the resurrection of all, the judgement and the new creation, all at once.

No one knows the day

A view held across many of the schools above, about date-setting itself.

The objection

Jesus said no one knows the day or the hour, not even the Son, only the Father. So believers should be ready at all times, not count down to a date.

  • Only the Father knows. Not the angels, not the Son, only the Father (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32).
  • Said again after the resurrection. "It isn't for you to know times or seasons" (Acts 1:7).
  • An hour you don't expect. "Be ready, for in an hour that you don't expect, the Son of Man will come" (Matthew 24:44).
  • Past dates failed. William Miller's 1844 and Harold Camping's 2011 dates passed; critics say date-setting harms faith.
Who holds it

Most churches in every school on this site. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (673) cites Acts 1:7; Calvin and most Reformed, Lutheran, Orthodox and evangelical teachers read Matthew 24:36 the same way. Critics of Messiah 2030 on YouTube include Nelson Walters and Underground Publishing.

Messiah 2030's reply

  • Present tense. "No one knows" spoke to the first century; it does not say no one will ever know. (Day and Hour, 0:00:40)
  • Sealed until the end. Daniel was told the words are sealed until the time of the end, and the wise will understand (Daniel 12:9-10). (Day and Hour, 0:12:00; 0:16:00)
  • Not as a thief to watchers. "You, brothers, aren't in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief" (1 Thessalonians 5:4). Only someone who knows ahead is not surprised, they argue. (Day and Hour, 0:27:48)
  • A feast idiom. The day no one knows may be an idiom for the Day of Trumpets, set by sighting the new moon. (Day and Hour, 0:05:49)
  • A watch, not a date. Their video descriptions say: "This is a call for a watch, not setting a date." (Part 1, description)
Read the verses
Daniel 12:9-12 (WEB)
9He said, “Go your way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end. 10Many will purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked will do wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand; but those who are wise will understand. 11“From the time that the continual burnt offering is taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate set up, there will be one thousand two hundred ninety days. 12Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred thirty-five days.
1 Thessalonians 5:4 (WEB)
4But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
